Former Macquarie Group Executive Committee member and head of its Banking and Financial Services Group to chair the agri-food investment and advisory firm as it builds an institutional farmland investment management business.
London, United Kingdom, 19 August 2026. Viresco Group, the agri-food investment and corporate advisory firm, today announced the appointment of Peter Maher as Chair of the Group board.
Mr Maher is an experienced director with a strong leadership record in major listed corporations, including multinationals, across both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. He spent 13 years on the Macquarie Group Executive Committee, where he led the Banking and Financial Services Group to record growth. He has also held industry leadership roles, including extensive consultation with Government as Chairman of the Financial Services Council of Australia. During his time at Macquarie Peter oversaw the establishment of the group’s successful agricultural funds management strategy.
The Group comprises Viresco Capital Management, which invests in agricultural real assets on behalf of institutional and wholesale investors, and Viresco Advisory Limited, which advises agri-food companies and investors on strategy, transactions and capital.
Mr Maher's appointment strengthens the Group's governance as it scales its investment management activities. As Chair, he will lead the Group board, oversee governance and support the executive team on strategy, capital formation and institutional relationships.
